Castle 2002

NEW TRENDS IN GEOMAGNETISM VIII

PALAEO, ROCK AND ENVIRONMENTAL MAGNETISM

8th Castle Meeting

1st Announcement

Castle "Zahradky", Czech Republic

September 2 - 7, 2002

Time left to Pre-Register

Zahradky Zahradky Zahradky

The aim of next meeting of the series of "Biennial Castle Meetings", organised jointly by Geophysical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and Geophysical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, is to follow the tradition of the previous six meetings held each other year since 1988, and thus to promote the information exchange on fresh results in palaeomagnetism, environmental magnetism and physical principles of rock magnetism.

Original contributions dealing with the following topics are welcome:

- Palaeomagnetism and Tectonics;
- Magnetic Anisotropy;
- Archeomagnetism;
- Assessment of Quality of the Palaeomagnetic and Rock-Magnetic Data;
- General Rock Magnetism and its Physical Background;
- Magnetostratigraphy;
- Environmental Magnetism;
- Relations between Palaeomagnetism and Global Changes;
- New Techniques and Approaches.

Since a specialised rock-magnetic workshop will be held in June 2002 at Erice in Sicily, we would like to avoid unwanted overlap and accummulation of meetings. Therefore, the focus of the Castle Meeting will be put on Paleomagnetism and its applications rather than on Rock and Environmental Magnetism. However, space will be provided also for presentations dealing with the latter topics.

Location:

The meeting will be held at a Castle of Zahradky. The castle is located some 100 km north of Prague, near a town of Ceska Lipa (see the map below, or interactive map of the Czech Republic).

The castle itself and its surroundings provide excellent facilities for informal meetings and discussions, either during the sessions, evening discussions in a wine cellar, or during the social activites planned.

Fees:

Following the present prices, the total "all inclusive" fee is US$ 550. The fee includes registration, housing and full board, social activities and transportation within the programme of the meeting.

Reduced fee for accompanying persons, students and participants from "post-communist" countries is US$ 450.

Social activities:

"Social activities" usually consist of an open-air barbecue garden party, half-day trip to the castle's surroundings and classical music performance. At last, but not at least, a special guided programme will be organised for the accompanying persons, including e.g. visit to a glass factory and several castles with historical exhibitions.

Pre-registration and second circular:

The pre-registration deadline is December 1, 2001. To pre-register, e-mail or fax a message to the contact given below, or use the www form available here. The second circular will be distributed in March 2002. Besides that it will be available on this Web site.
